The one-day Tactical Medicine course covers basic medical evaluation and interventions that the basic life support technician or citizen could use to provide care to a victim of traumatic injury until professional rescuers can arrive on the scene. The objective is to enhance the ability of the on scene care provider to assist the victim of trauma. This course is designed for the tactical operator, medical practitioner, or citizen seeking knowledge of how to provide trauma care in a hostile environment. The course will walk you through the most basic of tactical medical care concepts and will culminate with the student demonstrating proficiency in those skills.

Objectives:
At the conclusion of this course the successful student will be able to:
+ Evaluate Mechanism’s of Injury.
+ Perform a Basic Trauma Assessment.
+ Recognize and protect patients with suspected Spinal (CNS) Injuries.
+ Stabilize and provide basic care for Burns and Extremity Trauma.
+ Recognize and treat for Shock (Including Hemorrhage control and Fluid Resuscitation Concepts).
+ Have a familiarity with “The Deadly Dozen” (Internal Injuries).
+ Differentiate between Cover and Concealment.
+ Be familiar with techniques used to provide care in a hostile environment.
+ Be familiar with Patient Movement, Stabilization and Transport techniques.
+ Be familiar with Triage concepts and operations.

+ Sack Lunch.
+ All needed equipment will be provided.
Optional: + Each Student will have to option to purchase the textbook "ITLS for Emergency Care Providers, 7th Edition” ($59.00)


*** The lessons are derived from years of full time paramedic street applications and the study of trauma care. The primary instructor has over 25 years experience as a Fire Department Paramedic – starting as a Basic Combat Field Medic for the U.S. Army – and including more than ten years as a Flight Paramedic for rescue helicopters and several additional years as a Medical Crew member for high speed race events such as NASCAR, IRL and CART.

*Note- Being taught medical skills in this course DOES NOT allow you to operate outside of legal statute. However basic these skill sets are, FTA and its instructors cannot certify or license you to operate outside of your medical scope of practice!
