Shotgun

This course teaches the student how to effectively and safely utilize a shotgun. Upon completion of this course, the student should be proficient with:

Fundamentals of shooting a shotgun
Ammunition selection and management
Patterning
Zones of fire
Understanding the characteristics of buckshot, birdshot, and slugs
Indoor and outdoor firing positions
Weapon retention (i.e., how to keep your weapon from being taken by an attacker)
Close Quarters Conflict
Sling use, mounting from a slung position

Equipment: (Equipment can be provided, upon request in advance)

Eye and ear protection

Service type shotgun with carry strap (sling)

Ammunition:

100 rounds birdshot
50 rounds buckshot
50 rounds slug

This course is additionally offered as night shoot. The entire class is instructed in low light conditions and incorporates the tactical use of a flashlight and other lighting methods. The night shoot teaches various target identification and sighting techniques specific to limited visibility. Basically, the student reinforces the day class instruction and learns additional skills while under the cover of darkness.
